From an early age I have been passionate about art, when I could I attended art workshops and it was through one of those workshops 20 years ago I discovered ceramics which became my greatest passion. I love the tactile nature of clay and the many possibilities it offers.
I am inspired by the patterns of sea and shore and the black basalt rocks of the Scottish shoreline and Western Isles. My father was from Skye, having spent many summers on the Isle of Skye as a child I still feel drawn to this beautiful place.
My work is hand built and thrown from porcelain and raku clay before being fired in a raku kiln. I have also recently started to experiment with the alternative technique of pit firing.
Within my work I am interested to explore the opposing contradictions of fragility and strength, stability and imbalance, and how they can co exist within the form.
